M&M’s Peanut Butter Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting

Ingredients:

– 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 1 cup creamy peanut butter
– 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
– 4 large eggs
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 cup whole milk
– 1 cup M&M’s Peanut Butter candies, plus extra for decoration

For the Peanut Butter Frosting:

– 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 1 cup creamy peanut butter
– 3-4 cups powdered sugar
– 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and peanut butter until creamy. Gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
5. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the peanut butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
6. Gently fold in 1 cup of M&M’s Peanut Butter candies.
7. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and smooth the tops.
8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
9. For the frosting: Beat butter and peanut butter together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition.
10. Add vanilla extract and enough cream or milk to reach desired consistency. Beat frosting until light and fluffy.
11. Place one cake layer on serving plate, spread with frosting, then top with the second layer. Frost the top and sides of the cake.
12. Decorate with additional M&M’s Peanut Butter candies as desired.
