Mary Berry’s Malteser Tray Bake
A rich, crunchy chocolate tray bake loaded with Maltesers and biscuit pieces, topped with a smooth chocolate layer. This no-fuss classic is perfect for sharing and always a crowd favourite.

Ingredients:

For the Base

225g malted milk biscuits (crushed)
200g milk chocolate (chopped)
125g Maltesers
160g butter
3 tbsp golden syrup
1 tbsp cocoa powder

For the Topping

300g milk chocolate (or dark if preferred)
100g Maltesers

Directions:

Prepare the tin
Line a rectangular baking tin (approx. 20×30 cm) with parchment paper.
Melt the mixture
In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter, milk chocolate, and golden syrup together, stirring until smooth.
Add cocoa
Remove from heat and stir in the cocoa powder until fully combined.
Mix the base
Add the crushed biscuits and Maltesers. Stir gently until everything is evenly coated.
Press into tin
Transfer the mixture into the prepared tin and press down firmly to create an even layer.
Chill the base
Place in the fridge for about 1 hour, until set.
Melt topping chocolate
Gently melt the chocolate for the topping until smooth.
Add topping
Pour the melted chocolate over the chilled base and spread evenly.
Decorate
Top with Maltesers, pressing them lightly into the chocolate.
Final chill
Refrigerate for another 1–2 hours until fully set.
Slice and serve
Cut into squares and serve.
