Caramel Apple Dump Cake 🍏
Ingredients
For the apple pie filling:
4 green apples
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
5 tablespoons granulated sugar
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed
For the cake layer:
½ cup caramel sauce
12 ounces (about 1 box) yellow or vanilla cake mix
¾ cup butter, melted
For serving (optional):
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
Instructions
Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.

Make the apple filling: Peel, core, and chop the apples into ½-inch pieces. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the cinnamon and stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then stir in the chopped apples, sugar, and ¼ cup water. Cover and cook for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring once every minute, until the apples begin to soften. In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water until smooth. Pour this slurry into the apples while stirring continuously. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes, until the filling thickens and becomes bubbly. Remove from heat.

Layer the filling: Pour the hot apple filling into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly with a spatula.

Add caramel: Drizzle ½ cup of caramel sauce back and forth over the apple filling, covering as much surface as possible.

Add cake mix: Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the caramel and apples. Do not stir or press down.

Add butter: Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix, trying to cover as much of the dry mix as possible. Do not stir.

Bake: Place the dish on the center rack of the oven and bake for 45 minutes. The top should be golden brown, and the edges should be bubbly. If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil for the last 10 minutes.

Cool and serve: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or additional caramel sauce.
