Black Velvet Cake

Black Velvet Cake
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup black cocoa powder
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup hot coffee or hot water
Black food coloring (optional for deeper color)
Cream Cheese Frosting
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate curls 
Black cookie crumbs
Fresh berries 
Dark chocolate ganache drizzle
1. Prep the pans
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans.
2. Mix dry ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together:
flour
sugar
baking soda
baking powder
salt
black cocoa powder
3. Mix wet ingredients
In another bowl, whisk:
buttermilk
oil
eggs
vanilla
Slowly combine wet and dry ingredients.
Stir in hot coffee until batter is smooth.
Add black food coloring if desired.
4. Bake
Divide batter evenly between pans.
Bake for 28–32 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool completely.
5. Make frosting
Beat cream cheese and butter until creamy.
Gradually mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until fluffy.
6. Assemble
Frost cake layers generously.
Decorate with chocolate curls, cookie crumbs, or ganache drizzle.
