Ingredients
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat and prepare the pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two opposite sides to use as handles, or lightly grease the pan with nonstick spray.
Melt the butter: In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in 20–30 second intervals until fully melted.
Combine the base ingredients: Add the dry cake mix, eggs, and cinnamon (if using) to the melted butter. Stir with a sturdy spatula or wooden spoon until a thick, uniform batter forms. The mixture will be dense—this is expected.
Add chocolate chips: Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Press into the pan: Transfer the dough to the prepared pan. Using a spatula lightly coated with nonstick spray or slightly dampened hands, press the dough into an even layer covering the entire bottom of the pan.
Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean with just a few moist crumbs. Avoid over-baking to maintain a soft, chewy texture.
Cool and slice: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for 15–20 minutes. Using the parchment overhang, lift the slab onto a cutting board, or slice directly in the pan. Cut into squares or rectangles while still slightly warm for easier slicing
