St. Patrick’s Day Brownie Trifle ![]()
Ingredients
For the Brownie Layer:
2 boxes (18 ounces each) brownie mix
For the Cream Cheese Whipped Layer:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
½ cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
¼ cup powdered sugar
For Decoration & Garnish:
¼ cup green sprinkles
½ cup mini chocolate chips
½ cup green M&M’s (optional, for extra festive color)
Instructions
Part 1: Prepare the Brownies
Bake the Brownies: Prepare the brownie batter according to the package directions (or your homemade recipe). Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan. Bake as directed, typically 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cool Completely: Place the pan on a wire cooling rack and allow the brownies to cool to room temperature completely. This step is essential—warm brownies will cause the cream layers to melt and become runny. Once cool, cut the brownies into 1-inch square cubes.
Part 2: Make the Cream Cheese Whipped Layer
Whip the Cream: In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, ½ cup of powdered sugar, and the vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat, or the cream may begin to separate.
Beat the Cream Cheese: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the remaining ¼ cup of powdered sugar until the mixture is completely smooth, fluffy, and free of any lumps.
Combine Gently: Add the whipped cream to the cream cheese mixture. Using a spatula, gently fold the two together until they are fully combined and the mixture is uniform in color and texture. Be patient and use a light hand to keep the mixture airy.
Part 3: Assemble the Trifle
Begin Layering: In your large trifle dish or individual dessert cups, start with a layer of brownie cubes, covering the bottom evenly. Top the brownies with a generous layer of the cream cheese mixture, spreading it to the edges.
Repeat Layers: Continue layering, alternating between brownie cubes and the cream mixture, until all ingredients are used. Aim to finish with the cream cheese mixture as the top layer for the best presentation.
Decorate Festively: Immediately after assembling, decorate the top layer. Sprinkle evenly with the green sprinkles, then scatter the mini chocolate chips over them. If using, add the green M&M’s for an extra pop of color and crunch.
Chill Before Serving: Cover the trifle dish loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 24 hours. This chilling time allows the layers to set and the flavors to meld beautifully. Serve cold.
